The Delta Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services

As a registered training organisation within the Australian Qualifications Training Framework, the Delta Society offers the Certificate IV as a nationally recognised vocational education qualification.

The course satisfies the Training.gov.au requirements for us to issue a Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services, which is part of the Animal Care and Management training package.

The full course is a structured, competency based program involving over 600 hours of practical and written assignments conducted by face to face classes and distance education. It is unique in its scope and its structure and is designed to produce graduates who can design, conduct and evaluate training classes.

The course should take at least 2 1/2 years to complete but if you have good time management skills, you may be able to complete the course in less than this. Those who wish to complete the whole course must be prepared to set aside at least a minimum of 7 hours per week to your studies in completing written or practical assessments outside of the workshop program.

Pre-requisites to competently complete the course:

  • physical ability to conduct classes
  • a broad range of appropriate interpersonal communication skills
  • sound literacy and numeracy abilities (Year 10 English or equivalent as a minimum)
  • computer literacy (word processing, email and internet skills)
  • access to reasonably fast broadband internet
  • an email address
  • access to equipment to enable visual and audio recording of practical assessment (e.g. flash/digital camera, IPhone, video camera)
  • access to video editing software (e.g. Windows Movie Maker etc.) video taping devices and editing programs.

Previous school experiences or the length of time since completing formal education should not be a stumbling block for completion of this course.

The course is made up of units of competency. These competencies may be delivered elsewhere but Delta has customised them so that they have a unique Delta orientation but still meet our requirements of our accrediting body.  The units of competency are:

  • ACMCAS410A - Conduct companion animal training classes.
  • ACMCAS409A - Provide training advice to companion animal owners.
